From days where Radoslav KOVAC was our midfield PIVOT to those where Alex SONG is a squad player.
PROGRESS

Re: Alex Song
If we can get him to take a lower wage, then keep him.

If not, let him go. He shouldn't be one of our top earners, not even close.

The Shorts thing is a brilliant fashion statement. Sadly goes over the heads of most.

Re: Alex Song
He's clearly quality but inconsistent and injury prone. A deal is only worth doing for the right wages in line with FFP - otherwise we risk having him and Carroll as very expensive unreliable squad players

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if we could fashion a good value deal to keep him but I reckon other clubs will be happy to offer him more than we will and unless he's desperate to stay in London, it won't happen. He's shown flashes of what he can do this season and if we are in Europe in any capacity next year, we will need a stringer squad but in the 18 months we've had him he's only been consistently great fir about 3 (max 4) of them.

Re: Alex Song
Norflondon is right. The last time he had a good game was against arsenal in December/Jan , where his performance was epitomised by his goal that was ruled out. Performances since then have steadily declined. It was like it really cut him up.

Re: Alex Song
With the emergence of the younger, hungrier Obiang, I wouldn't be at all concerned if he was to leave.

However that said, I'd also be happy for him to sign if the wages were right.

I don't get why a candidate for February's premier league player of the month has been brought up on a thread about one of our reserve players?

Mentor
Or it could be attributed to him playing shit for 15 months......?

Don't remember anyone slagging him off when he had his three months playing brilliantly

I think Song is good but not great

Re: Alex Song
Can the hatred of Song among WHO's finest be directly attributed to his threat to Noble? Somehow there appears to be a correlation.

Re: Alex Song
Top quality player and starting to get back to the level he was pre injury. Clearly more than good enough and should be signed in the summer.

The Ghost of Braderz 1:14 Fri Mar 11
Re: Alex Song
Reassuring to see the majority of fans have realised he isn't good enough anymore. But that's just an egotistical take on things. Personally I still rate the bloke for being brave enough to come to us in the first place and give it a crack, many a player woulda sat there building sandcastles on Sunday's and picking up the annual La Liga title along with a weekly €100,000.00

At his age there's no reason for him not to play for his country. Maybe in a year or so he'll merge experience with his ability and perform properly.

JustAFatKevinDavies 12:48 Fri Mar 11
Re: Alex Song
He's obviously a good player, but he's shown it once in the last calendar year, on the wage he wants we shouldn't be even considering signing him

ludo21 12:45 Fri Mar 11
Re: Alex Song
If we can afford to keep Song as a squad player (obviously competing for a starting place) then it's a no brainer... not many teams have someone of his calibre coming off the bench.

There was talk last week of offering him (only) £45kpw and at that level it makes sense... I suppose it's up to the player.

Yorkammer 12:14 Fri Mar 11
Re: Alex Song
We need players of his quality competing for places if we are to really progress.

Very shortly he will be running things in the middle of the park.

If this bloke Havard comes in it does not auger well for Song.

Re: Alex Song
Looked more like the old Song in the second half v Everton. He was quicker, sharper and didn't lose possession as he had a tendency to do in most previous games. Bilic has probably got the message through to him that if he wants a permanent deal,he will have to sharpen up a bit. I hope he does,as he is a class act at his best.

Re: Alex Song
I think Nobes - Kouyate and Obiang are all infront of him in the pecking order... and rightly so... bit like Carroll a lot of wages to have sitting on the bench
